Excellent Light and Excellent Value Dec 04, 2010
By KenBar I live in an area that is remote and can have power outages that last for several weeks. However, the normal outage is for 3-8 hours during a storm. This llight is a perfect light for both situations. The "night light", which is the first brightness you cycle to is enough light to see in an emergency. It is rated at 100 hours. To test this, I left the light on level one, after fully charging it. It was on 12 hours from 8pm to 8am. I did a test immediately of the battery. It was still on 3 green flashes which translates to 4/5 full. I did it a second night and it was still at 4/5 full. I can assume from this that it will last easily the full 100 hours on minimal brighness.
On full bright, it is rated at 4 hours. This is too bright to look at for me. This would be good for searching for something in the dark. I will probably use it at brightness level #2 ( this lasts for 12 hours ). I am going to buy another and use for camping. Two lights will give enough light for wilderness camping and still allow it to charge up the next day off the grid.
The light comes apart easily with 4 screws and the internal battery is a NIMH 2A 1500mah 3.6 volt. It looks exactly like the many batteries that are available off the shelf at Radio Shack for house phones. It also has a plug type attachment to the circuit board so replacment can be done by anyone with zero electronic knowledge and a screw driver. Just take it apart and remove the battery and take with you so you can match the shape of the connector. It is a very common type and easy to match. The freshness stamp on the pattery was this year so I would expect a long life it you follow normal NIMH charging guidelines. Kudoos to the designers... if only Apple would do the same thing..:) It appears to be made with lots of attention to detail and should be around for awhile with minimal care.
The solar pannel that comes with it is nicely made. Its output is 5.5 volts / 236 ma therefore 1.3 watts. It charges up the light nicely and also has a good feel to it. Since it as been my experience that cords are the weak link in electronics, I added 2 mini stick on strain reliefs to the back of the unit. This was not necessary, but will take the strain off the connection block on the back.
Overall, it is a great value for the money. Please check out the webb site for additional information. Google "D Light Design".
The company's mission statment is a reflection on the quality of the product... "Enable households without reliable electricity to attain the same quality of life as those with electricity. We will begin by replacing every kerosene lantern with clean, safe and bright light."

Endless Light Oct 26, 2010
By William M. Reichert We have used the D.light Nova rechargeable lantern for almost two years now, and it's great that it is now available on Amazon! My son has taken it on several five-day camping trips. He charges it before he goes, and he has never run out of light during the trip. We recently had a power outage, and as elegant as candles appear scattered around the house at night, they are not nearly as brilliant and convenient as our Nova lantern. It's also much more effective, and lasts longer, than a flashlight, especially if you want to illuminate a broader area. The D.light rechargeable lantern was designed for users in developing countries, but it is a great product for anyone who camps or experiences periodic power outages.

Great light when it works Apr 27, 2011

This is a great light when it works. Had it for 5 months before it died. It's very lite. I left it with the solar charger plugged in. I took it camping and it was dead. I hardly used the light ( I turned it on once for about a minute)! It came with an AC charger and it charged the light with no problems. The AC charger and solar charger works on the S10 lights also. I contacted customer support and have not received a response.
Update 6-1-2011: I was able to reach customer support and they sent me a new one. I give them another two stars for that! They told me NOT to leave the solar panel plugged into the S250 for long periods of sunlight over weeks. Apparently the unit has not shut off when the battery is topped off. Hopefully the newer models will resolve this problem.

10 Star Review! BUYING MORE OF THESE! Apr 05, 2011

This is the first review I've ever given on Amazon and let me say I seriously can't say enough good about this light! It is extremely well made, perfect size, brighter than I ever expected,SOLAR PANEL IS VERY WELL MADE, comes with a whole bunch of adapters so you can charge other things with the mini solar panel...WONDERFULLY MADE AND DESIGNED! I tested it as soon as I got it...fully charged it in my window AND the light lasted MUCH longer than it claims...hours longer!!!
My advice is to buy one or several if you can....you won't be disappointed and will be showing your friends and family and praising it just like me. These are the BEST solar lamps I've seen yet and I've been searching for almost two years to find "the one". THIS IS IT.

EXCELLENT Feb 11, 2011
By David J. Stitt Very useful, comfortable to handle, very light weight. Highly recommend at least 1 if not 2 in your personal evacuation kit. Bedlight light level is bright enough to read by and should last you awhile. Factory says 100 hours. Low light level is 12 hours. Medium light level 6 hours. High light level 4 hours. If walking at night or backpacking Bedlight gives enough light to see the trail so you keep from putting your foot in a hole or twisting your ankle if you have normal vision. There is a trick to the light switch. After the intial charge. Press the switch once; turns on Bedlight, leave on short time; one would think that it would go up to the next level, goes off. To make it go to the next level keep pushing the switch to the desired level. This is the second one I've bought and gave it as a Gift; the cell phone adapter works for their cell phone.
