5Top notch gear, not complete.  Apr 12, 2010
By Wulfstan "wulfstan"
This is not a complete survival kit, but it contains several of the highest quality survival gizmos in one compact kit.

First for signaling we have just about the best mirror out there, and a top notch whistle.

Next for firestarting we have the BlastMatch, which is renowned for putting out a serious array of sparks and being able to start a fire better than any other "flint" style tool. It's also one where you don't need a knife. One thing- the instructions are often printed tiny and aren't all that easy to understand. So, try this out a few times before you set off. It comes with 2 WetFire Tinder Cubes, which are great, but for practice you'll need more.

Finally there's the SaberCut Saw, likely the best compact survival saw on the market. This can be used outside of survival situations, just to gather firewood, etc.

So this kit handles signaling, firestarting and woodcutting really well. But no shelter, no knife and of course no food, etc. Unlike some "pocket kits" this one is fine for deep outback trips, it has quality tools that can be used outside of just a "lost in the wilderness" situation.

Something to make tea in (or whatever your choice of hot beverage is) with a couple tea bags and some sugar packets are a nice thing to have. Before you panic, it's an excellent idea to STOP! sit down, and make a cuppa.

Thus, if you supplement this with a good knife, a survival blanket or bivvie with some paracord, a small 1st aid kit and of course some food and water, it's an excellent kit .

4Excellent Quality!  Feb 24, 2009

All components are well made. A little difficult to re pack but most kits are. Case is extremely tough, the one handed striker is very easy to use and the fire starters work quite well.
