Description:

The MYO RXP is the first Petzl headlamp that is regulated and programmable, allowing the user to choose the order of lighting levels and to precisely adapt light output. To do this, there are three lighting modes, for each of which the user can select the power from among ten possible levels, from 8 to 140 lumens. This feature allows the lamp to be programmed for the type of activity and the length of use. Maximum power lighting would be suited for a short night run, for example; less powerful lighting would help preserve battery life and would therefore be ideal for a multi-day trek. This headlamp has Boost mode (160 lumens) and a flashing mode (slow, fast & SOS) that can be programmed. It is compatible with lithium batteries to optimize performance, even at low temperatures. The Wide Angle lens offers the option of switching instantly from a focused beam to a wide beam when necessary. Weighs only 175g.

Features:
  • Lighting levels can be programmed (in three steps, using the two buttons) to favor light intensity or battery life, depending on the activity

  • High-output lighting:: 160 lumens (Boost mode) shines up to 97 meters. 8 to 140 lumens (programmable levels). 95 hours of battery life with program level no.1

  • 3 lighting levels, Boost mode and Wide Angle lens. Water resistant for all-weather use

  • Battery charge indicator light warns when the batteries are 70 % & 90 % discharged. Automatically switches to reserve power mode almost discharged

  • Comfortable and stable: compact design. Adjustable elastic headband. Top strap included (not attached) for increased stability if needed

5Absolutely fantastic headlamp  Oct 22, 2009
By Jason
I *love* this headlamp. I bought it specifically for nighttime trail running and it definitely does the job. It's amazingly bright at it's highest setting; I'm able to run nearly as fast in full dark as I do during the day. It takes 3 AA batteries so it's not as light as some lamps, but with the battery pack in the back it balances well on your head. I don't have any problems with the comfort, and I'm notoriously picky about anything on my head.

As another review mentioned, the controls are tiny so it's not that easy to toggle it with gloves on. Once you get used to the placement it's not too bad though. And for me this quirk is minor given how well the unit performs.

If you need a *very* bright headlamp that is comfortable and lightweight enough for active sports this is the product for you.

5No regrets yet  Jan 26, 2010
By Rose
After some deliberation about the cost of this product and the weight of the 3 AA battery pack I went ahead and purchased it. I have been using the lamp for about 4 months in several situations. During an 8 hour hike at night the lamp was sufficiently bright at its lowest setting. I had no comfort issues and the weight of the battery pack was no problem. Contrary to some pictures the light did include a center head strap for a more secure fit. Another reviewer somewhere mentioned that the lamp leaves a shadow just in front of the feet. This is the case but it can be reduced with increased downward angle of the light trading off some forward vision. For me it did not negatively affect hiking even on treacherous terrain. I am also using the lamp for reading in bed. One can shift the lamp such that the battery pack is not in the way when one lies on a pillow. The lamp is also working well for uses around the house and yard but probably any light would do well. The switch that is subject of some criticism causes no issues for me. Turning it on the first few times seemed a little cumbersome but the switch quickly becomes a non-issue unless one has to operate it with gloves. In fact I prefer this design since it is much less likely that the light turns on inadvertently in a backpack or in a suitcase like a different lamp did that I used to own. The light can be angled back for transportation in which position the switch is well protected. I really like the programmability to find an optimum between light output and battery life for different uses.

5Lots of light  Oct 15, 2009
By Jim
I love this headlamp. Nice and light, batteries last a long time, the diffuser is great, I could go on for a long time with these compliments. I have two minor notes on things I would like to see improved. First, the on/off button is small and pointy, it takes some time to get used to it. Also, the tilt feature is very rough, I have used other headlamps that have had much better on/off buttons and swiviled up and down much nicer. Those are minor issues compared with the rest of the great features and all the light this lamp produces.

5The best out there in this price range and most other price ranges...  Aug 10, 2011
By Sean
Let me address some of the concerns that I saw from other reviewers before purchasing this.

Water resistant to IPX-4 standard: As far as I can tell, it is. I don't know what the other complaints are about. I sweat like a pig when I run and I ran for two hours this morning (August in Texas), and experienced no problems.

Weight - This is a really light piece of equipment. The light itself seems to weigh almost nothing and the pack w/batteries in is situated on the back of the head in such a way that I didn't even notice it. Even as the sun came up, I just went ahead and left the light on my head because it was so unobtrusive.

As far as other things I noticed:

Very easy to program. The instructions are clear and given in both picture and word format.

Extremely versatile light range. Although 1 (the lowest setting) is probably bright enough for most things, the other settings are excellent for running trails. I like a lot of light, so I go with 8 on the trails.

Additionally, levels 1-8 are regulated, whereas 9 and 10 or not. Still, I think you would have to be nearly blind to need those two settings.

My only concern is that I emailed Petzl immediately after ordering this item requesting warranty information and they never got back to me.

Overall, despite bad customer service, this is an outstanding product.

This light met all expectations. You can cut grass at night with this light. I can't wait to go hiking and caving with it.
