1Love Lodge, but mine must have been a lemon!  May 02, 2009
By @homemom
Over the past year I've purchased quite a bit of Lodge preseasoned cast iron cookware and I simply could not be happier with it. This seemed like the perfect solution for our "where do we put this thing" question when grilling meat in the grill pan and using round grill press. It did work perfectly, for about 5 times. Then the bolt that holds the two pieces together simply snapped in two. I was so frustrated that I threw it away (stupid as I should have just replaced the bolt)... but I'm still very disappointed in the quality of this item especially compared to the very high quality cookware I have from Lodge. I also wanted to note that mine arrived very clearly marked "MADE IN CHINA" which I was very surprised by as I thought all lodge products were made in the USA and the product description states this to be true.

Buy with caution!

5Great quality, nice tool, something extra  Mar 18, 2006
By M. Lowe
This is something that you can live without... but it is a nice extra if you are looking to make dutch oven outdoor cooking more enjoyable.

This stand is a nice size and folds nicely to tuck in with your camp cooking tools, and works well.

While this lid rest is a good tool, let me tell you of a GREAT one:

My favorite Dutch Oven tool is the MAIR Dutch oven lid lifter. I haven't seen it on Amazon.com but you can search online for it. It grips the lid by the loop and gives you complete control without getting ashes in your pot while checking it. You can also use it to turn the lid over to remove the ashes when ready to serve. Has an extra hook on the end to aid in lifting the Dutch oven by its bail.

5Lodge lid holder  Jul 15, 2005
By bk26
Great lid holder to have next to your Camp dutch oven. It keeps my lid from burning the table I set it on. It can also be used with the regular dutch oven to raise up so you can put charcaol under it. I have not used it yet to flip the lid over for eggs and such. It looks very easy to use that way though.

5No more twigs in my stew! Yay!  Oct 08, 2009
By John Schultz
This is a great item! a must for dutch oven cooking. It does it's job perfectly. It is cast iron so it can also rust and should be cared for like the rest of your cast iron cook ware. I simply spay it with oil every once and a while. As for for my cookware, I do not wash mine. I wipe it out good and place it in the fire and burn it clean. After it cools wipe it out with some newspaper and spray it with oil and your good to go.

Great food-While any thing can be done in a dutch Vegetables, Roasts, and chickens are the most forgiving. If your a rookie I would stay away from the Wagyu Beef Rib Eye Filet Steak until you get a better feel for how dutch cooks.
Patience-Not available on amazon at this time. :) I will add this to my subscribe and save as soon as it available! :0

Dutch is a lot of work but is quite addictive.

4Another must-have for your DO cooking gear  Jun 29, 2006
By Melissa Frederick "melissafred"
I accidently left mine at home recently and felt lost without it. This provides a clean surface on which to place the lid when stirring. I haven't used it yet to flip the lid over and use it as a griddle but am looking forward to doing so. For me, it's as important as the lid lifter.
