5excellent addition to toolset  Feb 20, 2011
By Wonky Monkey
got rid of the microwave and don't have a toaster oven. This lid makes the pan essentially a little oven of sorts. It also allows for frying up things that splatter while containing the mess, sometimes I use it with the lid ajar so steam escapes and splatters mostly don't. I'm probably going to buy lids for presents for members of my family, cause I like having a lid that much.

Something to keep in mind is that the lid has to be treated the same way as a cast iron pan, for me that involves mostly inverting it over an open flame after use. Failure to do this will result in a rusty lid, you don't really want that. Mostly I don't wash it cause by and large it is covered in either water or oil/fat and I'm ok with baking those out.

5Perfectly fits the 9 inch skillet  Dec 12, 2009
By K. Robertson
This 9 inch cast iron lid fits the Lodge 9 inch skillet, and greatly expands its usefulness! In a pinch, you can also use it to cover the 8 inch skillet, although that's not what it's made for.

5I use this all the time. it is versatile  May 19, 2012
By J. Mercik
First: the 9" cast iron skillet size is just a great size for day-to-day ... especially in a two person home.
Secondly: Because of the little steam dents on the sides of the skillet and the top, it is possible to "dial in" a variety of top positions, thereby fine-tuning exactly how much steam ventilation is occurring in the skillet while cooking.... simple, for sure, but very effective.
Thirdly: Amazon pricing makes it easy to get the skillet plus the top .. for just about the same price as the skillet alone at many outlets.
Fourthly: Cast iron does in fact improve with each time it gets used. Non-stick cookware deteriorates slightly with each time used.

5Good pans  Mar 06, 2012

The Lodge cast iron skillet is excellent. It really brings out the flavor of the food and the clean up is not that hard. Its a good cookware .I would recommend instead of buying an expensive clean brush, get one from the dollar store.

5Eggs slide around  Dec 22, 2011
By Samuel Feaster
I re-cured the skillet with virgin coconut oil. After using it half a dozen times the eggs don't stick. I fry eggs with butter or olive oil. I do add a bit extra oil when frying eggs. Between uses the skillet goes in the oven with a light coat of oil with just the pilot light drying it out. I went with the 9" rather than the 8" skillet. A Porterhouse or T-bone will fit perfectly in the 9".

The iron lid is a great fit worth the cost as cooking is faster and less messy.

My mom used a 12" iron skillet for decades cooking for the family. I used a 6" one 30 years ago when in my 20's. We should of never let them go. Very glad to have one again. The food taste better and the skillet will outlive me.
