Beautiful pot Apr 05, 2010
By Lynne Nelson
"book lover"
Just holds a whole chicken or a small roast with companion vegetables and herbs and simmers them to perfection. Also very pretty red with the elegant, and very well designed handle, which makes it much easier to pick up when hot than the usual knob. Excellent quality!

it cracked and chipped Sep 11, 2010
By Peter pum'kin everyone should own a dutch oven but why spend over $200. I chose this one because of the flat base.
update: 4 months of use and the base enamel has cracked and chipped. I'll be getting a new one. you get what you pay for. This time buying Le Creuset.

Not up to Lodge's usual durability - stick with standard avoid L series Oct 22, 2010
By Seattle Slim I've owned the Lodge L series 6 quart dutch oven for about 3 weeks. While I initially was pleased with both it's cooking (browning) performance and quality, its already begun to show its low quality. The lid chipped after its second use. As the lid was not dropped or slammed.. this looks like an enamel bounding issue. The same can be said for the crack in the enamel that has developed on the underside. Other dutch ovens I have owned have not shown this type of fragility so quickly. The edge where the lid and pot meets also rusts easily. Another disappointing flaw that means you have to keep the edge oiled at all times.
The handle is great and I wish all cast iron pots had such a generous loop to grab onto. My wife has weak wrists and loves this feature that make the pot lid easier to handle. She wishes the side handles were as large.
I would not buy this product again if given the chance. There are other cheaper options that are no worse.. and several superior options that are more expensive. I cannot say that in this case you get what you pay for given the mid-point pricing for this product. If you buy American as I do.. buy the standard or signature series lodge dutch oven DO NOT buy the L-series.

Excellent item May 09, 2010
By D. Bennett I have no complaints about this purchase. The oven was delivered in good packaging, has no flaws, and does its job perfectly. The enamel coating makes it a breeze to use and keep clean. The handle is functional, and more importantly, metal so I don't have to worry about it breaking from heat like certain other ovens. It's cheaper than le creuset but just as good.

Chipping enamel Nov 02, 2010
By mhn I gave this item as a gift to my husband in June, and it was put into use recently. Significant chipping is occurring after only the fourth use of this product. It is a beautiful looking piece, and I wish I could say the same about it's fabrication. I looked at this piece and thought it would be an economical alternative to the Le Creuset. If I was rating this product on its asthetics, I would give it five stars; however, its beauty cannot make up for its integrity, thus the two star rating.
