good for the field Jul 17, 2009
By J. Look I bought this light with camping in mind. I noticed that it had many of the features I wanted for this. Most of all, it had a color beam I thought was better for outdoors. I am not a flashlight freak, so sorry if I sound very layman. I saw a video on youtube comparing the beam with a tk11. I saw that it was more golden in color, almost like an incandescent light. LED lights with that near white color are definitely bright, but something about the color, it gets lost easily in partially lit scenery and it doesn't show things as well in foliage. I don't know why this is, perhaps it's just my eyes. This was a big selling point for me, and it is true, I can see in foliage much better with this color.
I read a review where one of the complaints was the rubber grip spinning around. Yes it did spin around. However, this brings me to another story. When I first got it, I found a pair of alkaline batteries I had for my flashlight in the car and used those. Wow, I was kind of happy with the light, but I noticed that the flashlight got kind of warm kind of fast. I played with it for a while and it seemed okay. Then I sat it down for a test and after about half a hour of turbo, the light stepped down. That's a lot less than the two hours I was expecting. Anyway, I tried another pair of batteries I had lying around, and it lasted even less. I was worried I got a lemon. Okay, I decided to get out my eneloop rechargeables to do more testing on the light, and I noticed that not only did it run cooler, it lasted much longer. I don't think it lasted as long as they claim, but close enough. After having a little more time with the light, I noticed that the rubber grip is no longer loose. Maybe it shrank from the heat. I don't know.
Anyway, I found another review and that person had tested alkalines as well as the rechargeables and they lasted much less than the rechargeables, about 40 minutes I think his graph showed. Maybe that's just how they are. When I go camping with it, I think I will take a combination of rechargeables and perhaps some lithiums, but if I leave it in the hot car, I'll just use the alkalines.
It looks and feels very durable. I like the belt clip. It is handy for quicky things, and in conjunction with the case, it's really handy.
Overall, I like it. I don't regret this one.

Fenix makes great flashlights Jun 21, 2009
By Travel & Tech For some reason, I'm a bit of a flashlight junkie - not that I use them a lot, but when I do, I want flashlights that are bright, have good color representation, and sturdy. Fenix flashlights fit all of the above. I have several different models from this company, and the TK20 is the latest one that I've purchased.
What I really like about the TK20 includes the following: it is an LED flashlight, which means that it will last a lot longer and use less energy than other flashlights, it uses a powerful single Cree LED (which is brighter than many other multi-LED flashlights), it has a tailcap on/off switch, and it takes AA batteries. In addition, you can adjust the intensity of the light with a twist of the head.
There's no real downsides to the flashlight, other than I wish it came with a carrying strap in addition to the belt holster. Compared with other flashlights that I've used (including MagLite, Inova, Surefire, and Streamlight), it's got one of the best balances of power and convenience.

Awesome Light! May 25, 2009
By DG I can't say enough about this light...I'll start with the build quality, it is the sturdiest flashlight I have ever felt, although I would trust the durability of a maglite first. The battery tube alone, is the thickest I have ever seen, granted, you lose some of that thickness under the rubber grip. The threads are top notch...Smooth, not too fine, and not too course. Tail cap threads are anodized so tail cap lockout is possible. The head is solid, great for heat dissipation. Glass lens is very clear, can't even tell its there, reflector is smooth, and emitter is perfectly centered. The modes are easy to operate...Head tight is turbo mode(150 lumens), head loosened is general mode(45 lumens), single stage forward clicky, meaning momentary on, and on/off, no modes to cycle through. Rubber grip is a great feature, does not slip at all. Removable clip is a plus. Does tail stand well, and has a spot for a lanyard, although it does not come with one. My favorite feature is the neutral white CREE Q2 emitter...It makes for a very pleasant beam, not blue at all, more resembles an incandescent light, meaning colors are rendered MUCH better than the likes of a Q5 or R2, although not as bright. The beam is more of a tight spot with considerable side spill, so if you want a good flood beam, look elsewhere. I would suggest using NIMH batteries, preferably SANYO Eneloops, Duracell Pre-Charged(white top), Kodak Pre-Charged, or any other good LSD cells. SANYO 2700 Mah for longer runtime. Or Energizer Lithiums for shelf life. Alkys don't fair too well on turbo.
One Con I found was a distinct squealing on turbo mode, but that is minor, does not squeal with alkys though. All in all, I would recommend this light to ANYONE! Perfect for the outdoors, in which this light is intended for....Buy it and you wont regret it!!!!

Fenix TK 20 Mar 29, 2009

Simply a brilliant flashlight. I do inspection work, and it is one of my MOST useful tools, especially because when I'm on the road, I don't have to carry special batteries. It is SO convenient to use regular AA.

Great Light Dec 16, 2008
By retrodog The description is accurate. This light really puts out some lumens and it's nice warm color. The head rotates to allow a lower power level, which is still pretty bright. This lower setting is more than enough light for everyday use.
The yellow handle is kind of a wimpy looking color but should prove to be effecting at keeping it from blending in with other stuff and getting lost... like in the couch.
I like the split supports on the tail cap, where the switch is located. That makes a nice feeling end. The light seems to be built very solid as well.
I have more testing to do but so far I'm very impressed with this light.
