Great price for Versatile Mylar Foil Jun 30, 2010 You can use these reflective mylar foil sheets for dozens of applications - and with 12 huge sheets you'll have plenty left over even after tossing 2 in each of your cars!
Mylar is strong, light and (this metalized type) is highly reflective, both of light and thermal energy. Normally this stuff costs quite a bit, especially if you buy it packaged for some of its other common uses. Mylar does come in several thicknesses and these blankets are cut from one of the thinner types (< 1mm). At this thickness even the metalized mylar is partially transparent, so be aware of this if you plan to use it to block windows or something (you might have to double up).
Grab-n-go Jun 10, 2010 These foil mylar sheets are very strong, lightweight, and come individually packaged in a sealed plastic bag measuring about 4"x3"x1/4". As shown in the photo that I provided (in the customer images) of one of the unopened packages in the palm of my hand, it will easily fit into a pocket or purse. With a roll of duct tape and a length of paracord, a tent, sleeping bag, poncho, or rain/sun shelter can easily be configured. I wrapped myself up into one of these and found that I was nearly as warm as if wearing a down parka within seconds. I bought these to carry in a grab-n-go bag.
Note:
I found that I could cover the inside of my "hung sash windows" with this foiled mylar and cut my electric bill in half. I was able to do two windows per sheet and simply taped around all four sides with duct tape.
Mylar Blanket Jun 02, 2010 Got the horror stories while taking a camping class at REI. Bought these for each of our backpacks and the car. We opened one to show our kids how and when to use it if they got lost. They are as advertised, and much cheaper than the store.
Exactly as described May 08, 2010 I can't say much about these since we haven't had to use them in an emergency situation, however they appear to be exactly what they are supposed to be: Mylar blankets folded in a square in a small package.
We opened one and it measured close to description of size.
excellent packaging-fast shipping Apr 28, 2010 the product arrived quickly and was well packaged. I opened one up and tested it. I am 6' tall and 290 lbs. It covered me completely. I got hot very quickly. It works. Because of its material, it might be difficult for someone my size to keep it on in a windy situation, but Im sure I could figure out a way. A small framed person could probably roll themselves up in it.
