Awesome Little Product Feb 12, 2010 We didn't know about Borax until our elderly neighbor told us that she used it to clean all of her clothes and her children's clothes (from infancy onward). We had been complaining about the price of baby detergent and when she told us this, we immediately made the switch! It's perfect because it's fragrance and dye free.
It's saving us so much money on baby laundry alone!
And it's so multi-faceted. It can do so much (kill bugs, clean tubs etc) and costs so little!
We've always got a box handy these days.

Borax - stops insect reproduction and growth Jan 04, 2010 I once spoke to an entomologist about using a Borax ingredient to kill roaches, and such. He, being a specialist, informed me that Borax doesn't kill the insects, but makes them sterile, when consumed. Hence, once the living generation dies, there becomes fewer and fewer because they are unable to reproduce.
The recipe was a combination of Borax, onion, apple - rolled into small balls, and hidden behind furniture. However, this was poisonous to animals. I don't know if it is the Borax which is poisonous, or just the onion. (Onions are deadly poisonous to dogs and cats).

Borax cheaper at Walmart Dec 12, 2009 Call around to your local Walmarts to see which one carries this and you'll save on the shipping, plus it'll be cheaper. I just bought this for $2.98 at my local Walmart.

We do have 8 indoor pets and one got away by tearing the screen in our lanai, returning covered with fleas. Luckily 90% of the living area of our home has hard wood flooring with the exception of one bedroom (carpeted). The Vet. Prescribed Frontline® Plus and suggesting the use of a box of "20 mule team" Borax, for the carpeted area & everyone's bedding. We are flea less in less than a week. I also recommend this product for your washing machine, dishwasher and sinks plus many other suggestions on the box or http://www.purex.com/.

Great All Around Cleaner Mar 27, 2009 I use this in the dishwasher when I run out of my 7th Generation or Melaleuca. It's 100% safe. Contains no phosphates. I also use it to add to the water to wash my kitchen and bathroom floors. If you need your cleaner to have that "clean" smell, just add some essential oil to it. I've used lemon, tea tree oil, lavendar and eucalyptus. They all smell great and make me want to use the Borax all the time, and why wouldn't you! It's safe around kids and pets.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, it keeps the spiders, centipedes and other pests at bay too. Just sprinkle around your walls in the basement or where ever you have a problem.
