Great concept CHEAP HEAT .99 cents 6 1/2 hrs Mar 09, 2011
By Keith A. Frazier Saw on you tube along with the Quart paint can with tissue and rubbing alcohol emergency car heater. Gives off little or no carbon monoxide so it's safer than propane. I believe it gives off like 7200BTU so it could definitely heat a couple of small rooms or at least keep from freezing. I'm going to run a test for efficiency and length of run time for say 12oz. bottle and cost of run time for 8 hr period. This thing is about the size of a slow cooker/crock pot and can be used for cooking as well as heat.
My homes square feet- 1120 sq ft.
Initial test Outside temp start- 46 degrees F rainy and cold
Inside temp start- 65 degrees F
12oz. bottle Total run time- 6hrs 37min
outside temp finish- 44 degrees F still raining
inside temp finish- 66 degrees F
The furnace never turned on the entire test. I centered the heater/stove in my kitchen which is centered to my house and approximately 30 ft away from furnace thermostat. Obviously it was not super cold outside, but it ran at half throttle/open because flame was higher than I wanted because proximity to flame/heat hole diffuser. Cost of alcohol .99 cents for 6 1/2 hrs plus not including the initial cost of the heater. I used Rubbing alcohol which can leave some soot and did on underside of flame/heat diffuser. It recommends only using Denatured alcohol which is cleaner burning. The next test I'll get some for it. My conclusion so far is you could probably heat 1200 sq ft with two of these running at same time or at least keep from freezing (IN AN EMERGENCY/power outage). Stay tuned

It works Dec 06, 2011
By Dwight E. Howell It isn't that hard to figure out how to use and it does work. I'd say it's reasonably safe but reasonable care should be taken because this is fire. I suppose it could be used to heat a small space temporarily but the cost of fuel could get to you if you do that to often.
