4Cool Stove  Jul 24, 2010
We ordered this stove for a camping trip over the 4th. It worked as expected except for 2 things. 1) the oven thermometer never registered. I reported this to the manufacturer. They sent a replacement gauge but no instructions about how to install. I would've expected better for the price! 2) Seems very sensitive to wind. I had a hard time keeping the top burners lit. Don't remember having that problem with my old Colemans

1Ok oven, not enough BTUs on the stove  Jul 14, 2010
I bought this oven and used it for a few weeks before returning it. I was sorely disappointed with the low BTUs of the stove, which weren't enough to preheat a pan to sear foods, boil a large pot of water (I mean a rolling boil), or withstand any kind of wind at all (despite the use of the side shields). The oven worked pretty well, and was easy enough to clean, but if you're interested in an all in one that will replace your oven/stove in the kitchen, this is not it. I use my propane stove to do all my cooking during the summer, and wanted an oven to do my baking in. The oven is spacious enough to fit a 9x13 pan, and although it comes with two racks, one is all you can use to get even browning on your food. You have to watch the knob like crazy to maintain the proper oven temperature, and it is tricky to light.

So, if you want a propane stove that will do some serious cooking, go with a model that has 10,000-20,000 BTUs (I have a coleman roadtrip that I love and is 20,000 BTUs in each burner).

If you want a propane oven to do your baking, go with the coleman instant start model, it's cheaper, similar size and has more BTUs for reaching above 400 degrees (which this one can't). I bought my coleman oven through costco.com and it was an even better price than here.

This model is ok for small scale use, but if you really want to cook and bake, go with something more powerful.

4so far so good  Jun 18, 2010
I just got this and was hoping to see how it did in less than ideal conditions (two weeks ago we had Beaufort 12 winds [yes that's hurricane force] but we have only had the usual force 3 to 6 for the last week) and while late last week it was in the high 30s and low 40s for high now its in the high 70s. So I will post back if I get more adverse conditions. Well I got some. at Force 7 (27-33kn) is is difficult to light the stove and burner and oven effectiveness is reduced. In a Gale (Force 8-9, 41-55kn) it is unusable as it will not stay light, there were a lot of gusts but that is the range that I got on my anemometer. At force 7 with heavy rain (a bit over 1" in my gauge in about 40 minutes) the burners will only stay light if a pot is on them and the oven temperature dosen't appear to get over about 300F. (That's fairly rough as I wasn't willing to stand around and get drenched for very long). As a result I would doubt that this would be usable without shelter at low temperatures; remember that propane does not evaporate any more at -40°F/C (at -40 they are the same temperature). I do not recommend lighting a fire under the bulk bottle to get the vapor pressure high enough to use the stove.

The Good:
Heavy and fairly studiedly built.
Handles aren't bad, on the current model they are fixed and stick out far enough and seem sturdy.
Oven is good sized with two racks.
Auto ignition works well.
Doesn't use the hose with regulator Amazon sells with it, any Coleman, etc. bulk to bottle adapter works just fine (at least the one off my old Coleman that said "Only use with Coleman Products" did. Coleman High-Pressure Propane Hose and Adapter
Very frugal with propane, a 25lb bottle will probably last all summer if used several times a week.
Oven floor removable.

The Bad:
The thermometer reads a good 200F higher than the temperature at the lower shelf and 50F higher then the temperature at the roof of the oven. (this is the main reason I downgraded this oven).
Under favorable conditions (light wind 8 to 15 knots) getting the oven temperature stable took about 20 min and under adverse conditions would be very difficult (we are all too used to auto feedback controls on ovens etc. with this you are the feedback control).
Very frugal with propane; doesn't put out lots and lots of heat but that should not come as a surprise.
Doesn't use the hose with regulator Amazon sells with it, that is for the companies camp stoves. Camp Chef Sport Utility DJ-60LW Table Top Sport Stove
Heavy and while not flimsy not that sturdy; you really need the padded case if you move it or hall it around much.
The clips that hold the ears up are nice and sturdy but a bit of a pain to insert and fold up.
An annoying ad for accessories is diagonally over the oven door and took a razor scraper to remove.

The ugly:
Oven temperature gauge isn't all that accurate but that's why you buy a Splash-Proof Super-Fast Thermapen (Red) Instant Read Thermometer, Perfect for Barbecue, Home and Professional Cooking like I did.
Temperature difficult to regulate don't recommend using it with any product that has a do not exceed temperature (like TV dinners and some preprepared meals).
Drips on oven floor difficult to get off.
Hard to get height right so that the oven is easy to use and tall pots don't require a stool.
Largest practical pot probably a LODGE 6QT Dutch Oven AND 12" skillet is really tight. I would recommend 10" as the real maximum. The oven is 10¼x16" (260x406mm). You can't set anything on the oven floor as that provides ventilation for the burner,
Auto ignite can be fussy particularly if using a bulk bottle, let run for longer than recommended but have care.
The regulator that this stove uses is really weird with a strange connection to the stove. If you depend on this stove get a spare regulator and bulk hose; make sure that you know where they are!

Overall good. None of the Ugly were any big surprise. If you take the pop up or even the Prairie Whale and go camping this is a very nice to have. If you do block party barbeques or events like the Fire Department, or World Tai Chi Day picnic this is great. For emergencies you will need both shelter and good ventilation (not to mention bulk propane and a connection) best have that before hand!
If I was running a guide service and had a semi permanent or permanent setup this would be an excellent addition.

SAFTY WARNING for those not used to using gas outside. You can not see the flame in direct sunlight!

Kudos to Amazon the first arrived with a broken oven door and they replaced it immediately at no cost.

5More than I expected by far  Jun 06, 2010
I have been researching camp stoves for a few weeks and decided on this stove because of the oven and all the good reviews. A few common complaints were no handles and the thermometer in the oven was in the way. Someone must listen because I found the stove at a big box store. They had added handles and built the the thermometer into the face of the stove..I was sold. Cooked a salmon dinner in the oven, asperagus on top and a cobler in the oven. Simple and turned out easy allthough you have to watch the oven heat closly. Holds heat very well. The food was as good as I could have done at home, Maybe better as food cooked mwhile camping is always better..I do recommend this but check the big box stores to save a bunch...Hope this was helpfull...
