4Nice and hot  Aug 23, 2007
By J. Ballard "movie dude"
When this sits in the sun for a while, it gets borderline hot, like too hot to use. But it feels great after the pool. Solid construction except the tip where the water comes out would sometimes leak a little bit, but if you closed it when the water level wasn't at the very end of the line (by opening it, raising the spout above the bag and then closing it), it wouldn't leak at all.

5Better than just a shower  Aug 19, 2007
By M. rossrockwell
We love this product. It is convenient and easy to use. The Thermometer is an added bonus. I also use it in our backyard to wash our dogs. Very handy shower. I had thought I would want a larger capacity but the 2.5 works for us. We also used it to wash dishes when we were camping. Water warms quickly.

3Solar Shower Review  Apr 13, 2009
By Eric Bohn
It's worked well over the past three months of continuous use. It carries enough water for 1 person to shower completely. You just have to use a rag and be somewhat conservative.

The shower head could be designed a little better. If you're hands are soapy it can be difficult to get the shower head closed quickly (with one hand) to save water.

It developed a pin hole sized hole in the plastic bag, but I put some electrical tape over it, and the tape holds up well.

You should get temps to about 70 for the water to get hot enough (left out from 10am-2pm) to feel comfortably warm while you shower. You can probably get away with cooler temps, but the shower may be a little cooler than you might want for ambient conditions.

Jul '09 Update:

My '08 model shower was stolen, so I ordered another one to replace it. The '08 model they shipped me had a locking clasp that you could use to adjust the slack in the handle, or pinch the clasp to open it up. I found the locking clasp to be very helpful as I would re-hang the camp shower continually, usually over a tree branch close to the trunk so that the trunk would be thick enough to support a full bag. With the locking clasp I could hang the bag all by myself without too much difficulty.

The '09 model that I was shipped does not have a locking clasp; instead the handle looks just as it does in the picture. You have to manually un-thread and re-thread the handle strap if you want to hang the handle over a large enough trunk branch to confidently support the weight of a full bag. You can get around this by looping a locking clasp type strap around the handle and branch. You could also use a few of those velcro straps to do the same thing, though that would be a little more difficult for one person to work with than a locking clasp.

I've not seen any other small shower bags that use a locking clasp; it's an important feature for those of us that solo tour. If I could find another bag that did use a locking clasp in the handle, I would consider that more important than the shower head or temp guage. Hopefully someone will pick up the ball on this.

One other change I noticed is that the new model does not have a rubber gasket in the cap like the old one did (to prevent leaking I guess). In my first use of the new shower without the rubber gasket, the bag hasn't leaked, so maybe the gasket was not so important.

4A great product...  Aug 10, 2008
By K. Hyde
The 2.5 gallon summer shower is a great product. It has a deceptively strong shower head. No, it's not like having your shower at home, but for primitive camping where no showers are available you'll thank yourself again and again for having this. 2.5 gallons is more than adequate for a nice shower (and I have shoulder length unlayered hair). I have 2 of these showers - I use one as a shower itself and the other one is used for washing my hands before/after preparing food, using the facilities, etc. Golf towels hang nicely from the handle too when you use it for handwashing. It hangs nicely from a tree or any other sturdy area.

BIG NOTE OF CAUTION IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING THE 3 GALLON SHOWER BY THIS COMPANY - don't get it, get this one instead. For some reason the 3 gallon size is the same as this 2.5 gallon so just get this one. I learned that the hard way when I bought one each of the 2.5 and 3 gallon. In the grand scheme of things it's not that big of a deal and wasn't a big enough deal to send it back to Amazon, but people should know that they really aren't getting a bigger shower, just one with a different shape and is without the soap holder on the 3 gallon version. Shame on the company for misleading the consumer on the capacities of the 2 different sizes, but it is a great product otherwise.

4Works very well, essential for camping in the bush  Jul 23, 2008
By Jessica Teel
I camp for long periods of time in the Alaskan bush. This shower vastly improved our ability to enjoy our time there! The 2.5 liter size is enough water for one shower including washing your hair. I can't really attest to its ability to heat up in the sun, since the trip we took with it didn't have much sun. But we heated water on the stove and added one tea kettle of hot water and that was enough to heat the shower water bag. The thermometer on the bag is helpful and works well. The water flow and pressure is pretty good considering it is a small nozzle. I was surprised it flowed so well. The only criticism I have is it is a bit difficult to completely fill the shower bag. The cap where you pour water in is on the face of the bag, and the water wants to overflow and slosh out when you get to filling the last third of the bag. I had to fill it in a natural spring with rushing water, so did not have a water source that you could manipulate. It made it a bit hard to fill it entirely. All in all, it is a great product for camping. Taking a hot shower in the bush is heaven!
